A bit of context
Thank you for visiting this website.
Every time somebody asks my wife (Ulla), what is it that I do, she turns to me gently, smiles, and asks me to explain it to people. It is not easy. The fact is that things are a bit complicated. To begin with, I currently live between Mexico and Switzerland. But all confusion aside, first of all, I am a composer.
Music gave me the tools to make sense of my place in the world.
I am lucky to dedicate 25 years of my life to music composition. But this is where it gets complicated. I also run a few startups devoted to Tech R&D (mainly data science & engineering, graphs data analysis, etc. and training for upskilling and digital inclusion. My academic background relates primarily to music and digital art, holding a Bachelor in Music Composition (Guanajuato University), a Master in Digital Art (Pompeu Fabra University), and a Ph.D. in Music Composition (Harvard University). Nevertheless, I am writing these lines from my office as a Professor at the School of Government and Transformation of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico, where I am the Director of the Laboratory for Entrepreneurship and Transformation (LET).
My career does not fit into traditional job markets. And that is ok.
Now you understand Ulla. Things are shifting. Nonetheless, it is still challenging to explain that a person is interested -and active in several fields of work. I know many people relate to this polymath approach to life. Fortunately, more and more, there is a new emerging and growing community that is not defined by the profession or any other stereotype but rather by their curiosity and complexity.
At this stage in my life, I believe it is all about provoking talented creative people to work together to bring to life projects that should exist and that matter to people.
As challenges are getting more and more complex, there is enormous potential for transdisciplinary collaboration. My job is to provoke the conditions for communities to thrive and tackle complex endeavors. Because of this diversity, I enjoy working in many sectors. Once you have the community, we establish purposeful bridges between academic institutions, government agencies, private companies, NGOs, and invest time, resources, and talent, hoping that together we can improve our immediate context.
